TheraVac Biologics Signs License Agreement with University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center to Advance VLP-Based Immunotherapies for Neurodegenerative and Chronic Inflammatory Disease

Agreement supports clinical development and commercialization of novel therapies targeting tau pathology and the inflammasome complex

Sept. 10, 2025, ALBUQUERQUE, NM & MISSISSAUGA, ON — TheraVac Biologics (TheraVac), a company developing innovative immunotherapies for neurological and age-related inflammatory diseases, announced it has entered into a license agreement with the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center to advance the clinical development and commercialization of virus-like particle (VLP)–based technologies targeting key drivers of neurodegenerative disease.

The licensed platform focuses on immunotherapies directed against pathological tau protein and the inflammasome complex — two critical and interconnected mechanisms implicated in Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders. By leveraging VLP-based technology, TheraVac aims to stimulate a targeted immune response to reduce toxic protein aggregation and modulate chronic neuroinflammation. “This agreement represents a significant milestone in the expansion of our immunotherapy platform. Targeting both tau pathology and the inflammasome enables a differentiated, multi-mechanistic approach that reflects the growing consensus that complex diseases like Alzheimer’s require combination strategies to achieve meaningful clinical outcomes.” Said Ali Riazi, PhD, CEO, TheraVac Biologics.

The agreement provides TheraVac with exclusive rights to develop and commercialize the VLP-based technology for therapeutic applications in neurodegenerative and inflammatory diseases.
